Beginning in 2006, Pennsylvania One Book is a valuable program highlighting the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers and the significance of reading early and often to children as well as engaging them in conversation and other activities around books.
Pennsylvania One Book's 2019 selections are Barnyard Banter by Denise Fleming and Not a Box by Antoinette Portis. Throughout the month of April, Berks County Public Libraries will be celebrating with multiple copies of the book available for checkout and book-based activities at the libraries on select dates. Check online for upcoming programs or contact your local library to learn more.
Barnyard Banter
"It's another noisy morning on the farm, and all of the animals are where they should be -- except Goose. And where is Goose? Young children will enjoy clucking, mucking, mewing, and cooing while they search for Goose on every gorgeously illustrated spread."
Not a Box
"A box is just a box...unless it's not a box. From mountain to rocket ship, a small rabbit shows that a box will go as far as the imagination allows."
