Longwood Gardens' & MCL Adult Challenge Program

adult challengeLast day to enter the Longwood Gardens' Community Read and MCL adult challenge program!

Enter to win a copy of Longwood Gardens' Community Read selection, J. Drew Lanham’s The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man’s Love Affair with Nature and a $10 Starbucks gift card.

Send your submission to muhlbdt@gmail.com to be entered in a random drawing on May 29. There are two ways to participate!

Take a 30 minute screen fast and walk outside alone or with family and friends. During that stroll actively experience and engage with the plant and wildlife around you. Enjoy the smells, textures, views and sounds of the natural world. Close your eyes, if you desire, and listen to the sounds of the activity around you. Enjoy the smell of dirt after rain or the gurgle of water running in a stream bed. Look for patterns in the clouds and notice the incredible variety of colors that paint your surroundings. Take a nature-centric photograph of something on this stroll that captured your attention and send an email with your name and contact information to muhlbdt@gmail.com to be entered in a random drawing. The picture can be from the range of a vivid small insect to a stunning spring sunset and everything in between.

If you desire to engage with nature in a different medium try buying a small window plant or even attempt growing one from seed. Make the care of the plant a small routine that offers an opportunity to refresh your mind. Basil, chives, mint, rosemary or thyme are some popular herbal picks but the varieties of options are nearly limitless. Snap a picture of the seedlings or new plant addition to your home and send it along with your name and contact information to the email listed above for a different way to enter the drawing.

The drawing will be completed on May 29th, 2021 and all entries received by then will be considered.

All photo entries will be compiled in a slideshow that will be posted for everyone to enjoy. The photos received will be attributed to the submitting photographer.

Engaging in nature is a wonderful solo or family oriented activity that can awaken a thrill for the outdoors in yourself or those around you.

This program is for adults, 18+. Free to participate. No prior registration. Submit photographs to Miss Brittany by May 29, 2021 at muhlbdt@gmail.com. #BasicLiteracy #HealthLiteracy #CivicLiteracy
