RESCHEDULED: Berks Suffrage 2020 Centennial Event

Wernersville Public Library, 100 North Reber Street, Wernersville, PA 19565

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of women having the right to vote. Come celebrate the passage of the 19th Amendment at the Library!

This FREE event is for ages 10 to Adult. The program will be followed by a light snack, tea and lemonade.

Organized by a retired teacher, Hallie Vaughan, the Wernersville Public Library will host the Berks Women History Alliance volunteer “suffragists” as they entertain and educate you with portrayals of suffragist leader Alice Paul and one or more of the many others who worked alongside of her, such as Lucy Burns, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Anna Howard Shaw, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Cary Chapman Catt.

"We take for granted that women can go into a polling place and vote in America, but my grandmother didn't take it for granted!" said Hallie Vaughan. "This was a long, hard-fought struggle to secure this basic democratic right for America's women. It is a milestone worth celebrating."
