Participate in the Seed Exchange Libraries at select Berks County Public Libraries locations beginning winter 2025. "Check out" seeds from a variety of native plants and vegetables and bring back seeds from your harvest to share with other library patrons.
Many native seeds donated by Berks Nature and Rockland Roots. Browse through information supplied by the Penn State Master Gardeners on how to get started.
Provide your information in the check out sheet for updates on seed restocking along with notices for garden-related events (no more than 4-6 emails per year).

About Seed Exchange Libraries
Hosted by the Penn State Master Gardeners in partnership with Berks Nature and Rockland Roots nursery, the goal of seed exchange libraries is to promote and educate the public on best practices in sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship.
The purpose of the Seed Libraries is to:
- Emphasize the importance of native plants in home gardens in providing habitats for native species
- Support home and community vegetable gardens
- Provide education and access to native plant seeds and vegetable seeds
- Build a network of gardeners to exchange seeds, information, and experiences
Don't have an in-depth knowledge of gardening or local plant life? The Master Gardeners will provide information on how to start, save, and collect seeds for both natives and vegetables, ways to identify the best seeds to save (native) versus those not to save (invasive), and how you can help save pollinators by participating in the Seed Exchange.
