Patrons using this service will schedule a specific date to pickup. Library To Go operation hours run concurrently with our library hours of operation.
- Monday-Thursday, 10 AM-8 PM
- Saturday, 9 AM- 4 PM
Patrons are welcome to place items on hold by using our online catalog. Patrons who do not have access to the internet may call the library at (610)929-0589 to place 1-2 items on hold, request a prepacked Book Bundle Theme, or ask for Reader's Advisory. When the materials are available, MCL staff will call to schedule an appointed day for pick-up. When scheduling an appointment, or when requesting materials, we will require the following information: 1) Name and phone number. 2) Library card number. 3) The titles of the items that you would like to check out.
Patrons using the Library To Go service will be given a day on which to access their newly checked out materials. Patron materials will already be checked out to their account and waiting to be picked up from inside the vestibule of the library. Patrons are welcome to simply walk in the lobby, grab their items and go! Patrons should bring their library card to their pick-up appointment in order to match the last four digits of the card to the label on the appropriate package of materials.
Return items to the drop box, located outside the building in the wall to the right of the library entrance. Alternatively, returns may be made at the drop box inside to the left of the front circulation desk when the library is open for in-person services. Due dates for newly checked out items will be included on check out receipts and will be accurate. Most items are now fine free. Please see the Fine Free Pilot Program tab for more information. Fees for items that are lost or damaged during this period will still apply, as well as any fines or fees that were assessed to patron accounts prior to the library closure on March 16, 2020.
This service has now resumed. Hold requests from other Berks County Public Libraries may now be placed using the online catalog. This service is available only for libraries that are within the BCPL system. Requests will be transferred to your home library for pick-up. The usual restrictions will still apply. Not all items will circulate outside of their owning library.
Yes, patrons must hold a Berks County Public Libraries card to use curbside pick-up. New patrons that do not have a regular library card, can create one using online registration or by contacting the library at (610)929-0589. Staff will need to receive a copy or picture of a valid photo ID and current home address within Berks County to issue a new card. New library cards can be placed with checked out materials for curbside pick-up.
All physical materials currently on the shelf at MCL and in the county online catalog system are available. This includes books, DVDs, audio, etc. Digital content will continue to be available through reading.overdrive.com or the Libby app without curbside pick-up.
Yes we can! Call (610)929-0589 or email muhlenbergcl@berks.lib.pa.us for reading suggestions.
Patrons may make payments for fines/fees, which restrict an account from checkout, via credit card over the phone.
Regularly scheduled programs are now back to in-person inside the library. See the Events tab to browse our schedule. *Schedule is subject to change as we continue to navigate obstacles presented by COVID-19 and its variants. Feel free to call the library or check our Facebook page to make sure programs are operating as scheduled. We continue to encourage all patrons over the age of 2 years to wear a mask and practice social distancing while in the library.
The Fine Free pilot program started on June 1, 2021.
Old fines? If you have old fines or fees on your account please contact the library to discuss amnesty options that may be available so you can start using your card. We would love to see you again!
Overdue items? There will be no late fines on items that are returned within 30 days of being overdue. Any item overdue by 30 days will go to "Lost" and the patron account will be blocked from borrowing until that item is returned.
Lost or damaged items? Fees that apply to lost or damaged items will still be charged. It pays to take care of the items you borrow! The fine free program applies only to overdue fines.
What are the exceptions? Certain types of materials will still accrue overdue fines. Fine Free applies to MCL’s materials, not our location. Items owned by other Berks County Public Libraries that are not participating in the Fine Free pilot may incur late fine charges. Overdue fines will still be charged on the following items:
- Items owned by other Berks County Public Libraries not participating in the Fine Free pilot
- Reading Public Museum Passes
- Berks History Center Passes
- Elmwood Park Zoo Passes
- Independence Seaport Museum
- Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles
- Interlibrary Loans (materials borrowed from outside the county)
- T-Mobile WiFi Hotspots
