Ways to Support Your Local Library

Libraries are fundamental community centers that serve the public wholeheartedly. Anyone may freely utilize the information, entertainment, or tools their local library has to offer.

There are several (easy!) ways you can show support for your local library and help them continue providing these free services to their community.

1. Use Your Library Card!

Pulling out your library card to check out books, DVDs, and electronic media is one of the easiest ways to show your support. When you regularly borrow materials (or access computers), this shows your library is well-used. And by using your Berks County Public Libraries card, you have access to materials from more than 20 public libraries locations in Berks County. So next time you can't find that movie on your streaming platform, be sure to search the shared countywide catalog and borrow from your local library.

2. Attend Library Events

Did you know that public libraries offer fun and engaging programs for all ages? These include regular storytimes, teen book/gaming clubs, author visits, ESL courses, and so much more! By attending the Events & Classes available at the public library, you're helping shape the types of program offerings will be provided in the future.

3. Donate to the Library

Monetary donations are a great way to support the library and help fund special initiatives and projects, but you can show your support through donations in other ways such as participating in book sales/fundraising events or donating supplies and materials. You can always contact your local library to find out about their current needs or donate through their online portal.

4. Contact Your Elected Officials

Share your library story or relay your support to your local elected officials. Funding for your local library primarily comes through local, state, and federal levels. You can reach out to your municipal leaders or legislators for your district and tell them how much the library means to you.
